Educate 225 Kids by Sending Them to Preschool

Our Preschool students created valentine hearts from construction paper for you and wished they could have delivered these to you in person. We did the next best possible thing and are sharing some of their photos with you so you can feel all their love.

Dear Friends,

It is almost the end of the year and this year has been anything but easy for all of us. We hope that you and your families have been staying safe and well and that your year comes to a smooth and peaceful end. Although things have been slow at the camps with the lockdowns in schools still ongoing, OBAT has been doing everything possible to ensure that the education of the students is not disrupted.

The preschool you support is located in the city of Chittagong. The city organized training for its teachers which was designed for teaching students through smartphone apps. The training was conducted with the help of our partner, Teach the World Foundation, who have been our key and valued partner for our digital learning programs. Shirin Husain from TTWF provided the training to our team of teachers. After receiving the training, our preschool teachers visited the students at their homes and taught their parents/guardians how to use apps to teach their children. The teachers will keep on conducting follow up visits to the students’ homes to ensure that the students are doing well with this new methodology.

We are indeed blessed to work with great partners. Euglena, a Japanese biotech giant is another longtime supporter of OBAT. It is helping camp children fight malnutrition by providing nutrition-rich biscuits through its GENKI program. Inspired by a visit to Bangladesh camps as a student, Euglena president, Mitsuru Izumo, founded the company and established the GENKI program to help solve the issue of hunger in camp communities. 200 biscuits were distributed in September, free of charge, to each student of OBAT’s projects including its Chittagong Preschool. We are so grateful to Euglena for helping us ensure the well-being and health of our students!

There are so many sweet students in the preschool and each time, we try to introduce you to one of them. I would like you to meet, Rakib one of the bright students at the preschool:

Rakib is a student of OBAT’s Preschool in Chittagong. He is the baby of the family as he is the youngest child of his parents- he has two sisters and one brother. His father is a daily laborer and mother helps take care of the family. Rakib is five years old and started studying at the preschool beginning of this year. He loves to go to school and never misses it. These days, he is learning at home as the schools are closed.

Rakib likes to play cricket, a popular sport in Bangladesh. At this young age, he even has a favorite cricket player-Sakib! His favorite color is red and he loves to eat fish.

Rakib says he loves his parents very much. He wants to keep on studying and eventually become a doctor. When we asked him why, he said, “so that I can help people and my family.”

As the holiday season nears, please keep Rakib and families like his in your prayers. In spite of the trying circumstances, we all have the comfort of food, clean water and healthcare in our lives. This is not a given for many others in the world, including the thousands of families who struggle to survive in the camps. By supporting their education, you are giving them the means to create a prosperous future for themselves and break their cycle of poverty.
