Summary

At Cocoa360, we are creating a world where a child's birth location does not hinder the fulfillment of their fullest potential for the greater good of our world. Our model leverages existing community resources to improve access to quality education and healthcare for Ghana's 1.6 million cocoa farmers without long-term reliance on foreign aid. We invite you to join this partnership to ensure that the tuition cost of $455 is covered for 300 girls this year.

Challenge

One result of Ghanaian cocoa farmers' financial inequalities is that 75% of their children do not attend Early Childhood Education. This is because compared to 79% of their urban peers, only 61% of 3-4-year-old children in rural Ghana are developmentally on track (2020 MICS-EAGLE Ghana Education Fact Sheets). The problem of ECE access affects children as they progress through the educational system and reflects the limited availability of financial opportunities for families. Let's change that!

Solution

Cocoa360's pioneered "farm-for-impact" (FFI) model provides 330 girls access to quality tuition-free early childhood education and healthcare. The community members provide labor on community-run cocoa farms and are trained by our agric officers. Revenues from the sale of the farm proceeds are then used to eliminate non-tuition expenses as books, uniforms, daily meals, and transportation costs. Also, the village committee is empowered to lead the decision-making process in a bottom-up approach.

Long-Term Impact

The project will continue to give 300 girls, and additional 30 girls each year access to tuition-free education and healthcare. We will test and scale our model in 20 communities: - Projected number of community members served by scaling: 100,000 - Projected number of ECE children directly served per 20 communities over 3 years: 5400 - Projected number of children indirectly served per 20 communities over 3 years: 40,000 - Projected number of farmers served by this project: 80,000 cocoa farmers
