In Your Hands We Grant Them Life Again!

By Abdulrazak Madi | Project Leader

Have you ever thought that a child's smile in Northern Syria could be thanks to your support? Children, despite the traumas they have endured, are standing on the threshold of healing—with a touch of your compassion!

In the midst of these deep psychological challenges facing children in Northern Syria, the mental health department continues its diligent care, tirelessly. These children have experienced harsh traumas that left indelible marks on their young souls. But we believe there is hope, a hope that begins with every child who finds support and care on their journey towards healing.

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) has been one of the effective tools used by specialists in this journey. It’s not just therapy; it’s a path that reshapes the lives of children, step by step. What sets it apart is that it begins with accepting the inner pain that the child lives with, and then guides them toward transforming this pain into a positive experience that restores their psychological balance.

Imagine a child who has lived for years with borderline personality disorder, battling their thoughts, losing control of their emotions. Now, thanks to mindfulness techniques, they have learned to manage, to face what they’re going through, and sometimes, to smile again.

What about those children haunted by post-traumatic stress disorder? The painful memories that never leave them, the frozen expressions on their faces—these are gradually fading thanks to reality acceptance. They have begun to see their lives from a new perspective, no longer bound by those memories.

Self-harm, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression are some of the psychological burdens these children carried on their small shoulders. But with effective communication and emotional regulation, they are learning how to express themselves without harming themselves, and how to build healthy relationships with those around them and with themselves.

Have you ever wondered what the future of these children would look like if there was no one to support them? You have helped provide the necessary mental health care and treatment to these children who need more than just words—they need hope.

We want to continue on this path. We want to keep offering therapy and support. But we need your participation, your suggestions, your ideas. How do you see your role in this journey? And what else can we offer to improve their therapeutic journey?

Grateful for Your Compassion.
