Fares is immersed in strenuous manual labor; the very hands that secure his family’s daily bread are the same hands that refuse to let go of his pen and engineering ruler. Fares is a living story of resilience, challenging a harsh reality to design a future as he envisions it, not as circumstances have imposed upon him.
Since Fares lost his father, he found himself face-to-face with the responsibility of supporting an entire family amidst grueling displacement conditions. Fares spends long hours in exhausting work to provide a living, but at the end of each day, he shakes off the dust of fatigue to open his computer and attend his classes with "Masarat." For Fares, graduating from university as a Civil Engineer is a solemn vow he made to himself to rebuild his family’s life anew.
How does "Masarat" support Fares on his journey?
At Masarat, we realize that Fares represents an entire generation of young people who have been burdened beyond their years. Therefore, we designed our system to be the support that never fails them:
Work-Respecting Flexibility: The distance learning system allows Fares to follow his civil engineering lectures at times that do not conflict with his work, ensuring he can persevere in both paths simultaneously.
Specialized Academic Support: We provide him with a select group of engineers and teachers who appreciate his circumstances and offer the guidance he needs to excel in the difficult field of civil engineering.
Planting Hope through Independence: We do not help Fares so he remains an "orphan in need"; rather, we empower him to become a "creative engineer" capable of changing his community’s reality and rebuilding what the war has destroyed.
Our Partners at GlobalGiving Your support for Fares is support for the "backbone" of these communities. When you contribute to Fares’s education, you are lifting from this young man’s shoulders the bitter burden of choosing between "bread" and "dreams."
Because of you, Fares moves one step closer every day to the title of "Engineer," to pat his siblings' shoulders with the hand exhausted by labor and tell them that knowledge is the only path to dignity.
