Jawad is not just a child gathering a harvest; he is an orphaned student struggling with the earth and mud to hold onto his dream of school. Every potato Jawad unearths with his tender hands is, in his eyes, a "transit ticket" bringing him one step closer to fulfilling his late father's dream of becoming an agricultural engineer who will change the reality of his village.
Jawad’s face speaks of childhood features that fatigue has not yet killed. Despite the traces of dust on his face, his eyes shine with a great brilliance; the brilliance of determination not to let his school years be lost in the fields of hardship. Jawad spends his day in grueling labor under the sun, balancing his tired body which needs rest, with his mind hungry for knowledge that refuses to surrender to illiteracy.
How does "Masarat" intervene to save Jawad’s dreams? At Masarat, we realize that potatoes should be nourishment for Jawad, not a burden that prevents him from education. Therefore, we open a window of hope for him through:
Education as a Lifeline: Providing a flexible and free online educational system that allows Jawad to learn in his spare time, ensuring his school years are not lost to forced child labor.
Rebuilding Identity: Through academic advising, we help Jawad realize that his true value lies in his mind and intelligence, and that his current work is a temporary circumstance that will mold him into an inspiring leader in his future.
A Nurturing Environment: We provide Jawad with moral support so he feels he is not alone in his battle against poverty and orphanhood, and that there is an "army" of mentors and educators who believe in his ability to excel.
Our Partners at GlobalGiving Your support for "Masarat" is, in truth, funding for the mission of "Care and Guidance." You are contributing to protecting Jawad’s childhood from being lost, and giving him the tools to transform his tired hands from gathering potatoes to drawing a bright future for his village and community.
Because of you, we do not leave Jawad alone in the wind; instead, we place the compass of knowledge in his hand, backed by an army of educators who compensate him for the warmth of the support he lost.
