Learning to Recognize Joy

By Abdulrazak Madi | Project Leader

On my way to work, I heard a mother whisper to her child on the bus: “Celebrate every achievement, no matter how small. You deserve to be happy.”

Her words stayed with me and reminded me of our students at Masarat, especially orphaned children. Some of the lessons children need most in life are not found in textbooks: learning to appreciate their progress, understand their emotions, and recognize small reasons for joy even when life around them is difficult.

That is why our students’ journey goes beyond academic achievement.

Through psychosocial support and student activities, we help them become more aware of their emotions, express them in healthy ways, practice gratitude, build confidence, and appreciate the small steps they make along the way.

For a child who has experienced loss and instability, learning to recognize what they have achieved instead of focusing only on what they have lost can become an important life skill.

An achievement might be completing a task they once thought was too difficult, participating for the first time, discovering a new talent, or simply being able to say: “Today, I moved one step forward.”

And you are part of this journey.

Thanks to your support, our students receive more than knowledge. They also find spaces that help them develop confidence, self-awareness, a sense of safety, and hope.

Thank you for giving them more than books and lessons. You are helping them develop tools they can carry through life, and recognize that every small step forward is something worth being proud of.
