New College Student Thankful for Laptop

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

Mariama with her new laptop

Back in December, we sent out an appeal for tuition support so Mariama could start college in January.  First-year college students in Sierra Leone are typically asked to pay tuition upfront for an entire semester of college. That is nearly impossible for many students, like Mariama.  Thankfully generous donors like you stepped in and covered her first-semester tuition fees and Mariama started college in January.

Also mentioned in the December appeal was the need for laptops for college students and thanks in part to your support, Mariama recently received a laptop that she is now using at college.

She sent this video of thanks-

Hello, My name is Mariama, I’m a beneficiary of Develop Africa. Presently I’m at the College of Theology studying Peace and Development. I want to say a very big thank you, for giving me this computer, it is very helpful to me and it makes it easier to do my assignments, do research and also for preparing my notes. Thank you very much!

Every dollar received from generous supporters like you is making a difference in girls and young women's lives.   Together, we can continue to empower girls and young women with education.

Donation match alert!

From April 3-7, when you give up to $50 to support girls' education, GlobalGiving will match your generosity at 50% for the Little By Little campaign.

Help us spread the word: share this post with your family and friends to let them know that BIG change can come from little acts of kindness!
