Our initiative provides education to children displaced by drought and insecurity in Somalia. In displaced persons camps, we establish safe schools that provide nutritious meals while in school, writing materials, and textbooks to the children. Adolescent girls facing unique challenges, receive sanitary pads, enabling consistent school attendance.Through education, we break the cycle of poverty, empowering these resilient children to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
In drought-stricken Somalia, climate change exacerbates conflict as communities compete for scarce water and pasture resources. Displaced families seek refuge in camps, where poverty and food insecurity in thousands of households drive girls to early marriages and child labor for boys as a coping mechanism. Consequently, these displaced children face a higher risk of missing out on education, hindering their ability to acquire skills for a better future.
NAPAD established schools in displaced persons settlements, ensure quality education for displaced children who might otherwise drop out of school. To encourage food insecure families to send children to school, two nutritious meals are provided daily during school year and learning materials are provided to the children to enhance their quality of education. Adolescent girls are provided with sanitary pads, to support menstrual hygiene management and consistent school attendance.
There will be prevention of malnutrition among the displaced children, supporting their physical and conginitive development. The displaced boys and girls will receive an education that will open up future social economic opportunities, breaking the cycles of poverty. Risk of early marriages and child labour will be reduced among the displaced communities in Somalia and contribute to gender equality.
