By funding a scholarship through Epilogos, you're not only supporting the growth and learning of a student for a year, but you're reminding these vibrant children that their goals and dreams, the future they are working toward for themselves, their families, and their community, is deeply valuable. In 2025, we are sponsoring 57 high school students and 95 students in K-8, as well as 19 special needs students. But the need is much greater. You can transform the life of a student right now.
In the town of San Jose Villanueva, El Salvador, many families and their children are fighting poverty and the generational impacts of violence, first from the Salvadoran Civil War, and more recently from extreme gang violence in the region. The violence and its impact on economic circumstances make it difficult and sometimes impossible for many children and young adults to continue or complete their education, causing disruptions in their ability to build opportunities for their future.
Epilogos has been able to address this gap through our scholarship program. This program has provided educational scholarships to over 2,000 students from kindergarten to college, and created and funded special needs programs so that students with disabilities, who had previously been unable to attend school due to the level of support required, can receive an education as well. Yet, there is increasing need for scholarships, and we hope to grow our program 20% this next year to meet that need.
We believe that one critical way to combat violence and poverty is to enable all students access to quality education. Students who complete high school have more opportunity to find meaningful work in El Salvador. We have many former students working in hospitality, banking, accounting, education, retail, and sales, as just a few examples. They are able to stay in the community they love and contribute to its growth, or explore opportunities they previously had not dreamed of.
