Thank you for your support and interest in Epilogos’ scholarship program!
Access to education is critical to supporting the growth and flourishing of every child, and in San Jose Villanueva, El Salvador, many families need support to ensure their children can access education.
This year, Epilogos’ scholarship program is supporting 57 high school students, and 95 students in elementary and middle school. Additionally, Epilogos has identified an increasing need for support for special needs students in the village of San Jose Villanueva, and we are funding the salary for 2 teachers who have the background and expertise to assist the 17 disabled students on scholarship.
One student, Nathaly, is an excellent example of the impact of these scholarships. Nathaly is now 12 years old, and she has been in the scholarship program for five years, before which she did not attend school in part because of the special education support she would need to do so. When she first started attending school, Nathaly was shy, didn’t talk or socialize, often cried and sometimes didn’t want to enter the classroom. But with each passing week, she became more and more interested in her classes, her classmates, and was increasingly engaged.
Today, Nathaly has considerably advanced her verbal communication and socialization, and has graduated to learning in a classroom with mostly neurotypical children—maintaining her grades and continuing to grow in her learning. Her teachers observe her to be a very happy and engaged student who is able to attend full days of classes, who overcomes a lot of barriers, and who is advancing in her independence. All of this growth is in many ways made possible by the generous people who fund the special needs scholarship that Nathaly receives each year.
We need your help to continue supporting over 150 students next year, and to help us to continue to expand the number of students we serve. Each year, our team receives more inquiries from new families seeking assistance in getting their children into schools. You can help make that possible for them, and support growth and learning, as with Nathaly’s story. Thank you so much for your support already. Let's take it even further!
[Translation: “Many children haven't had the opportunity to attend school because opportunities are quite limited, and parents may even think they aren't capable of attending and learning in school. We definitely receive new requests every year.”]
