Summary

In April of 2012, AIL hosted an international conference on love and forgiveness featuring Afghan writers, poets, scholars and musicians. The purpose of this conference was to reintroduce the ancient, peaceful culture and values of Afghanistan to its people after years of war and strife. This conference was such a success that AIL has been asked to host workshops on the topic for Afghan students, whom AIL believes will be the catalyst that brings peace, justice and human rights to Afghanistan.

Challenge

After years of war and turmoil the peaceful culture and values of Afghanistan have been lost to many, especially the youth who have only known Afghanistan during these turbulent times.

Solution

AIL is looking to hold 12 peace, human rights and justice workshops. Each workshop will be focused on helping students learn to be wise and responsible human beings through the poetry, writings and music of Afghanistan's peaceful past. The workshops will be based on the widely acclaimed international conference that AIL hosted in April of 2012.

Long-Term Impact

By teaching Afghan students about their country's peaceful past, AIL believes that it is helping to bring peace, justice and human rights to all of Afghanistan. AIL believes that young people are the key to changing the culture in Afghanistan, and these workshops are a great way to begin that change. Every student who attends these workshops has the potential to teach their friends and family what they've learned, thus spreading the message of love and forgiveness.
