Fourth Report for GlobalGiving

Project Title: Educating Children in Conditions of Rural Vulnerability

Historically, women have been marginalized by public policies and in the process of local economic development. Red COMAL promotes the active participation of women so that they can be the protagonists of their own development with economic autonomy. Thus they will be able to guarantee a better education and quality of life for their children.

 Main achievements:

The training processes are high cost. However, in spite of financial limitations, some workshops were held during this quarter to strengthen women's knowledge on topics of interest:

A training workshop was held on Food and Nutritional Security, as well as the analysis of vulnerabilities in the livelihoods of farming families. Eighteen people participated in this workshop, including 11 women. The women now have more knowledge about nutrition and hygiene for the health of their families.

Also, an exchange of experiences on savings and loan associations was held between farmers from the northern zone of Santa Bárbara and women farmers from Intibucá. Fifteen people participated in this event, including nine women. The women are motivated to promote the organization of savings banks in their communities. The savings and loan associations are an alternative for rural families, especially for women who, due to lack of collateral, do not have access to the private financial system.

On behalf of the women's community organizations, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the donors who, through GlobalGiving, make possible the capacity building and empowerment of rural women in Honduras.
