Days for Girls (DfG) provides training to Cambodian teachers so they can confidently and effectively teach menstrual health and puberty education to girls and boys nationwide. This initiative aims to fill critical gaps in menstrual health education, providing culturally specific and age-appropriate teacher training and student lessons on puberty and menstrual health. Additionally, DfG distributes locally produced DfG washable menstrual pad Kits to improve access to menstrual health resources.
In Cambodia, where women and girls constitute 51.2% of the population, many face limited access to period products and accurate information about their bodies and menstrual health. Consequently, barriers to accessible products, resources, and menstrual health education can hinder their well-being and prevent them from participating fully in society, school, and work, achieving their potential, and can also result in stigma, shame, low-confidence, and health complications.
DfG's multi-year project, in partnership with the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), aims to train 600 teachers and trainee teachers through DfG's Cambodian Training of Teachers Program, to reach 15,000 students with age-appropriate menstrual health education lessons tailored to the Cambodian context, and to locally produce and distribute 7,500 DfG washable menstrual pad Kits to students and teachers, promoting sustainable menstrual health practices.
DfG's Teacher Training is designed for lasting impact, empowering schools and educators to provide menstrual health education and support beyond the project, creating sustainable change in communities. By including women, men, girls, and boys, it fosters long-term shifts in body literacy, confidence, and attitudes about puberty and menstrual health while reducing stigma and shame. Providing menstrual products ensures women and girls can thrive in their school environment without being held back.
