Summary

In the edge of the world's driest desert sit three schools which provide 150 children with the best level of education and nutritional support allowing them to grow up into strong, well educated young adults. This is because we provide free, good primary and secondary education and team it with the nutrition they need for the best start in life.

Challenge

The need to work for the family and hidden costs associated with school often leave children without a choice of where or even if get an education. Poorer families cannot pay these costs forcing them to enroll their children in the poorest schools where the teachers lack motivation resulting in less class time. The quality of the education that children receive in rural areas is so poor that they often finish primary school at a much lower level than what should be expected.

Solution

Fly the Phoenix provides the best education by working closely with local communities, employing hard working teachers. We team our education with food and fruit to combat the problems of malnutrition amongst children and to help them concentrate in class. We also provide sustainable programmes to the local population which offer support to the families, as a whole, empowering them to bring themselves out of poverty.

Long-Term Impact

We are creating a 25-year plan to empower a community to bring itself out of poverty through education and nutrition using sustainable methods. We have been working closely with 11 communities for ten years (two of which are in Guatemala) and have educated over 3,000 children opening up better job opportunities for each one and breaking the cycle of poverty. Once we know the 25-year plan is successful it will be able to be replicated around the globe in any community that needs it.
