A national level workshop was organized by BERDO on 21th April, 2018 at meeting room of BERDO Head Office on occasion of Bangladesh’s transformation from lest developed country to developing country. The workshop was supported by EPCD project. The Theme of the workshop was ` empowerment of people with disabilities toward transformation of lest developed county to developing country’.
Rashed Khan Menon MP, Minister of Social Welfare, graced the function as chief guest. Other senior government officials and dignitaries like Ms. Mahmuda Min Ara , Managing Director of National Disability Development Foundation, Mr. Abu Mohammad Yousuf, Additional Secretary of Social Welfare Ministry ,Ms. Farida Nasrin, Joint secretary of External Relation Department of Ministry of Finance , Deputy Secretary Ms. Nahida Sultana Mollik, elites, local leaders, senior citizens and a host of visually impaired people , students , journalists, Engineer Nurul Akhtar of Energy PACK, Ms, Feroza Khatun, Assistant Manager of BERDO , among others were present in the workshop. Chairman of BERDO Mr. Jahangir Alam presided over the workshop. Mr. Saidul Huq, Executive Director of BERDO, moderated the function. Among above guests, all student of the residential school for the blind attended the function.
At the beginning, key note paper was presented by Mr. Saidul Huq. Many Participants put their opinions and views on it. Visually impaired artists of BERDO sang few impressive songs that touched and enthralled everybody. In his presentation Mr. Saidul Huq, BERDO,s Executive Director, highlighted the achievement and contribution of BERDO in empowering People with disabilities in Bangladesh. He also added that to cover unattended PWDs BERDO needs more resources and everybody’s support and cooperation is a must to reach the goal. He added that BERDO has been working for 27 years for the development and empowerment of people with disabilities and so far successfully implemented a lot of projects with foreign and local donors/ development partners.
In his speech Honorable Minister underscored the need for not to let anybody particularly people with disabilities behind if Bangladesh wants its full development. He added that rights of people with disabilities must be protected and uphold to make the country developed. He also added that government is striving relentlessly to empower the people with disabilities. He added that private sector must come up for speedy development of people living with disabilities. The minister assured effective and total implementation of `Disability Law’ to ensure development and empowerment of people with disabilities. Minter also said that within one and half months a committee will be formed to select the schools for the visually impaired to bring those under the government monthly pay order (MPO) list. The minister also assuredjobs in BKMEA and BGMEA and other organizations /departments for visually impaired people
