On the occasion of BERDO’s 35th anniversary, Mr. Md. Saidul Huq opened the meeting by extending his warm greetings and welcome to all the distinguished guests and participants. The Chief Guest was welcomed with applause. The programme then began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Saimun Islam, a student of Class Ten. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Hosne Ara Begum, Treasurer of BERDO. To mark BERDO’s 35th founding anniversary, the Chief Guest, Mr. Md. Tariqul Alam, cut the anniversary cake.
Mr. Md. Saidul Huq then gave a brief overview of BERDO and its activities. He proposed that the playground for persons with disabilities should be named after persons with disabilities. He also suggested exploring the possibility of developing the 12 acres of land owned by Jatio Protibondhi Unnyan Foundation (JPUF) in Savar exclusively for a playground and selected income-generating activities.
Mr. Jahangir Alam, Vice chairperson of BERDO, emphasized the need for stronger administrative arrangements for disability-related affairs. He expressed his expectation that the position of Director should be established within the disability affairs structure under the Jatio Protibondhi Unnyan Foundation. He further stressed that this is the appropriate time to take decisive steps to ensure accessibility. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening the education system for persons with disabilities and improving educational methods through greater integration with mainstream education.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Md. Tariqul Alam, assured the gathering that he would take all necessary steps within his capacity to support these initiatives.
Other speakers at the meeting included Mr. Md. Ershad Ali, Mr. Abdul Mannan, Mr. Paban Richard Ritchil, Mr. Doris Ritchil, and Ms. Naima Sultana. Ms. Rahima Patuari, BERDO officials and staffs and students of the school were also present at the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Advocate Md. Mosharraf Hossain Majumder, Chairperson of BERDO.
