BERDO was come into being on 17th July 1991. So far BERDO has been successfully implemented many projects and activities. Most notable activity is establishment of a Residential Blind School which was established in 2006 with the aim of providing education to students having visual impairments. At the outset there were only 5 students. But the project got huge support from national and international donors and with their support number of students has increased to 33. Blind students now have excellent accommodation; get nutritious foods with necessary dress. In addition, there are recreational facilities for the studying students. Now students have the opportunity to study continuously from grade 1 to 12th grade.
On 11-03-2019 an Audio Book distribution ceremony was held at BERDO Head Quarter. 7 Stream (ZXY international) , an international buying house, supported the program by providing Audio Book to visually impaired students of BERDO and other students. A total of 250 students from BERDO School and others received those Audio Books. Those Audio Books will facilitate blind students in developing creative mindset and also their talent. Managing Director of 7 streams, senior officials of the organization, Mr. Hamim Hassan, a joint Secretary of Ministry of Social Welfare and also Director (Administration & Finance) of Jatio Protibondhi Unnayan Foundation, a national level platform for persons with disabilities, also present in the function and spoke. Managing Director of 7 Stream made commitment of providing continued support to BERDO. Guests underscored the need for greater attention to empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The function was ended by refreshments.
National Children Day 2019 was observed by BERDO on 17th March, 2019 at BERDO Conference room at Mirpur, Dhaka. A large number of participants attended the function. Among them were Students / Children of BERDO blind School, Parents and guardians of students and senior officials and staff of BERDO were present in this function.
A discussion meeting was held as part of this day. The meeting was presided by Md. Saidul Huq, executive Director of BERDO and other senior officials were presents special guest.
Speakers underscored the need for education and awareness rising of children about their rights in line with government law and other frameworks. They added that children must be aware about their rights so that they can become worthy citizen of the country. Their rights on Protection, participation and development must be ensured for the betterment of the country as they are the future leaders of the country. Country’s development mostly depends on their development.
Children participated in many activities like songs, reciting poetries etc.
