Summary

Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya aims to provide 40 children living in neighbouring communities the opportunity to dream big by offering them a four year holistic secondary education experience. By ensuring that 100% of the funds go to our beneficiaries, we will not only be empowering them with education, we will be contributing to bringing up a generation of young people that can positively impact their communities and become conservation and wildlife ambassadors.

Challenge

The benefits of wildlife conservation must be tangible to even the youngest members of local communities. Conservation does not happen in a vacuum but rather in an open ecosystem: a shared home for communities and wildlife. It is impossible to support one without the other. Children should be the most important guardians against poaching and environmental degradation, two of the biggest threats to wildlife conservation.

Solution

40 children based around Ol Pejeta will receive a 4-year secondary education scholarship. These scholarships are unique in that they combine and promote the notion that education IS conservation. Coupled with the normal academia activities, supplemental classes on conservation immersion such as tree planting and character building mentorship are also provided; helping the children become the leaders of tomorrow and wildlife ambassadors.

Long-Term Impact

Simply put by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, if all adults completed secondary education, we could cut the global poverty rate by more than half. In the end, educated youths become key decision makers in both community and conservation work. As the future of our rhinos and other endangered species hangs in the balance, you can help our conservation efforts by educating these young minds who all share an ecosystem with our wildlife.
