Education is a basic right, yet girls from the High Atlas in Morocco cannot access school due to the distance from their villages and lack of transport. This has led to generations of girls trapped in poverty, early marriage, and a destiny that doesn't reflect their potential. The good news is Education For All Morocco is changing this by building and staffing boarding houses close to the schools. Join us in sponsoring girls through their education! Educate a girl, and you educate a nation!
In rural areas of Morocco, girls are excluded from secondary education due to living too far away from the schools, lack of reliable transport and being too poor to afford travel and lodgings near schools. In the High Atlas mountain region of Morocco, illiteracy rates for women and girls are as high as 70%. Without an education, generations of girls and women remain illiterate and trapped in a cycle of poverty, inequality, and early marriage.
Education for All Morocco has found a cost-effective, safe, and successful solution. We build and run girls' boarding houses close to the secondary schools, bringing 250 girls from remote rural villages in the mountains into the towns where there are schools. For only $5 a day, a girl can live with us in the boarding houses where she receives 3 nutritious meals a day, a comfy bed to sleep in, hot showers, access to books and computers, international volunteers and a dedicated house mother.
At Education For All, we believe that educating a girl is the key to educating the next generation. We see girls thriving at our houses, passing school exams, and going on to pursue higher education, even up to the level of master's degrees. As the first in their villages to reach these levels of education, they serve as important examples and role models for driving unstoppable change. An educated woman is able to make a full contribution to her family, community, and the entire nation!
