100 most vulnerable families selected from families affected by heavy rain water and floods will benefit shelters and domestic materials including rain harvesting water tanks. The target group is constituted mostly by families headed by women, including widows and single mothers.
Until 2020 in Rwanda, only in the district of Kamonyi, project intervention area, reported on the current situation of more than 956 families at risk because they were affected by the consequences of the rainy season, more precisely because they lost their house or part of it, are homeless, sleeps outside or live in houses of neighbors. This project will affect 100 vulnerable families who are living in bad conditions.
Once we provide iron sheets with related materials, vulnerable families who are homeless, sleep outside or live in houses of neighbors will get their shelters and live in the conditions where they will not be threatened by rain and storms outside. After getting rain harvesting water tanks, they will contribute in long term on environment protection by collecting that water and use it rather to flow and destroy environment.
This project will reduce diseases and lose of lives due to the bad conditions some families affected by heavy rain were facing on. A hundred vulnerable families (100) from Kamonyi District will contribute also in environment protection whereby the water from the roof will be harvested and used while it should flow and destroy crops, trees and create erosion. From the experience of rain harvest importance, those families will contribute in mobilization of their neighbors to harvest rain water.
