Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Thank you for standing with families who have been forced to flee conflict and rebuild life from nothing. In Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda, Sudanese refugee women and children are facing escalating hunger, worsening water shortages, and unsafe living conditions as humanitarian funding declines and assistance is cut.

Through American Aid (A A Relief), we are launching an urgent emergency response to help the most vulnerable households—especially women-led families, young children, the elderly, and people with disabilities—survive this crisis with dignity.

Progress Update (This Quarter)

While this project is still in the earliest stage of fundraising, we used this quarter to strengthen operational readiness so we can begin distributions quickly as support grows. Key progress included:

  • Local coordination and verification planning:

Aligning with trusted local partners and community leadership to prioritize women-led households and high-risk cases.

  • Relief package planning and sourcing:

Preparing a practical, life-preserving package focused on staple foods, safe water support, mattresses for safe sleeping, and essential clothing for women and children.

  • Distribution oversight and documentation setup:

Establishing on-the-ground monitoring processes to verify recipients, document delivery, and share transparent updates with donors.

Community Need & Why This Project Matters

The situation in Kiryandongo is urgent and worsening:

  • Food assistance cuts are increasing hunger and malnutrition risk, especially for mothers and children.
  • Water shortages and limited hygiene access raise the likelihood of illness and preventable outbreaks.
  • Overcrowding and limited services leave families exposed to unsafe conditions and daily hardship.

Many refugees arrive after fleeing conflict with no bedding, no clothing, and no reliable resources.

Our work is rooted in dignity and protection. These families are not numbers—they are mothers trying to keep children alive, warm, and safe under extreme pressure.

Program Model (What Funding Will Deliver)

Once funded, American Aid (A A Relief) will deliver urgent emergency relief through local partners and verified community channels, including:

  • Staple food items: rice, posho, beans, salt, cooking oil, soap
  • Clean water support: to reduce illness linked to unsafe water and poor hygiene
  • Mattresses: to restore safe sleeping conditions and reduce exposure
  • Essential clothing: for women and children

Distributions will prioritize women-led families and the most vulnerable households. Our team will oversee verification, distribution, and documentation to ensure accountability.

Challenges & Strategic Response

Primary Challenge: This project remains at an early fundraising stage, while needs on the ground are immediate.

Our response this quarter:

  • Building readiness so we can deploy quickly as donations increase
  • Structuring distributions to be phased, allowing partial funding to translate into immediate relief for the highest-risk households
  • Strengthening tracking and reporting to maintain transparency and build donor confidence

Next Quarter Plan (Pending Funding)

In the next quarter, as funding grows, we will:

  1. Finalize verified beneficiary lists through community-led identification and partner validation.
  2. Launch initial distributions of food staples and hygiene essentials to the most vulnerable households.
  3. Expand distributions to include mattresses and essential clothing for women and children.
  4. Share clear reporting on outputs such as households reached, items distributed, and distribution dates/locations.

Expected Long-Term Impact

With timely support, this project will stabilize refugee families during a critical period by:

  • Reducing hunger and harmful coping choices
  • Preventing illness linked to unsafe water and poor hygiene
  • Restoring dignity through bedding and clothing
  • Strengthening family stability so women and caregivers can better protect children, access services, and pursue self-reliance opportunities

Closing

We are ready to begin as soon as funding increases. Your support will provide food, clean water support, mattresses, and essential clothing—helping Sudanese refugee women and children survive this crisis with safety and dignity.

With gratitude, The American Aid (A A Relief) Team
