Our medical team member send us the letter from the shelter in Moldova.
We would like to share with you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been dispatched as a medical aid worker to the Ukrainian refugee shelter in Moldova since April 11.
Since early April, Peace Winds Korea has set up a small clinic in the shelter in Chisinau, Moldova, to continue its medical support activities.
The shelter is the only place where can get supplies for the refugees, so many refugees visit to receive food and supplies needed every day.
We set up a small clinic here to provide necessary medical treatment to the refugees.
Many refugees who visit the clinic said many symptoms like the below.
"My medicine for chronic disease is run out already."
"I can't sleep because of anxiety."
"I have a headache caused by high blood pressure."
"I catch a cold."
"I have a rash."
But most of the symptoms are caused by stress from the war.
Many of them lost their loved ones during the war and lost their homes in the bombing. Many of them fled to leave their families behind.
The shelter life gives them stress and sometimes causes many people to get sick.
If you're listening to a patient who's under a lot of mental stress,
I wonder how painful it must be, but I also feel limited in not being able to hear and understand all the tragic stories due to language barriers and limited medical time.
But I do my best to make eye contact and listen carefully.
We're communicating somehow with body language.
I also try to care for their mind. I try to communicate in the simple Ukrainian language and talk to people first. We buy some toys for children, decorate pretty flowers, and use aromas to give relaxation to patients.
Even though it is a minor thing, I try my best to make a good circumstance for the patients who have been through the difficulties to get a better day.
Even today, many people are losing their safety and health due to this war.
However, some people have a warm-hearted help each other.
Moldova is not a rich country, but the people of Moldova were willing to accept Ukrainian refugees.
They gave their house as a refuge shelter, shared the difficulty of living with them, provided the necessary supplies, do volunteer work for the refugees. Many support and sacrifice of the people sustain Ukrainian refugees.
Some Ukrainian refugees help other refugees. They participate in all volunteer work actively.
We don't know when the war will end. If the situation gets worse additional refugees might come to Moldova.
I sincerely hope that the day will come soon when everyone can live a peaceful life with their loved ones.
Until that day, Peace Winds Korea continues to stand with Ukrainian refugees.
Please support us. Thank you.
