Place : ‘Patria Lukoil’ Ukraine refugee center, Moldova
Purpose of visit: purchase of heating facilities (electric heater, humidifier)
PeaceWinds Korea runs 'Patria Lukoil' shelter for Ukraine refugees in Moldova from the March of 2022. And about 100 Ukrainian refugees are living there, and 27 of them are children. Before this building was a movie theater, but now it is a place that replace a home for Ukraine refugees. There are separate rooms for women and children. Cookies and milk are always available, and the open space located at the exit of the shelter is used as a dining room. Also there is a separate quarantine area, and plastic blocks between tables in the dining room for prevention of corona infection. But not all rooms have heating facilities.
Once a week, every Thursday, we deliver goods to the shelter. In the beginning of financing, we were distributing foods and items for 2,000 people a week, but now it’s about 1,000-1,500. The shelter not only distributing humanitarian packages, but also our workers there are always communite with refugees, collecting all data about them such as who came with whom, from where and when and what kind of products or items they need. In the shelter work five employees employed by Peacewinds Korea. One of them is a Ukrainian refugee. Mattresses and bedding are prepared for the arrival of newcomers. Shampoo, shower gel, detergent, toothbrush and toothpaste are also prepared. According to our worker and the shelter manager, Vladimir, milk and pasta are expected to run out in October. Other items might be enough for October, but by November there wil be almost nothing to give to refugees.
Winter is coming, and the warehouse is always open, so it will be really cold inside. The workers of the warehouse also need winter cloth to be able to work and prepare food packages for refugees. It's still October, but it's already cold a lot inside the warehouse. For the winterization, the shelter required electric heaters for living rooms, and winter outerwear for staff and volunteers. We provided 40 electric heaters and 20 humidifiers to the shelter, but they need additional heating facilities and clothing. So the rest we are planing to provide in coming December.
Thank you
Peace Winds Korea
