The story of Teysha and Vavek
Peace Winds Korea team interviewed Teyshaa(29 years old, Ukraine) and Vavec(30 years old, Azebaijan), couple that got married in the Patria Lukoil refugee center. Do you remember the married couple with 1 year old daughter Amina? We had a chance to ask a few questions to the couple that we would like to share it with you.
They decided to leave Odessa(Ukraine) on 30 of April. Because Vavec insisted that they should take kids and immediately leave Ukraine. The next day, on 31st of April, there were bomb explotion right in front of their house.
Teysha and Babek :
First, we arrived to a village in Moldova that called Taraclia, where was offered a job to Vavec. He worked there for a month but unfortunately, he couldn't get any money from them. Then on 27th of May we came to Patria Lukoil shelter in Chisinau, Moldova.
What did you feel when war suddenly started?
Teysha: Actually, I remember only bombing explosion. There was a missile on the day war just started. But we didn't leave. We were just staying and hoping it's going to finish fast. But it didn't. So on 30th of April we decided to leave. Vavek insisted that we should take kids and leave. And the next day on 31st of April there was a huge explotion right in front of our hourse. If Vavek hadn't insisted I don't know what might have been.
Vavec : There was no better option than to leave because Teysha was pregnant and there was no job, no work. We had to leave.
How was the evacuation way? How did you come to here?
Teysha : Vavec's father gave us the last money he had to take the bus to Moldova. We couldn’t get on the bus in the beginning because all buses were full. And some drivers were saying that probably we are not going to be able to get to Moldova because there is bombing in the way.
What was the biggest worry at that moment?
Vavec : We were worried if we could get there safely and if there was a hospital that will accept us, because we were not married yet. We were really worried because legally I was nobody for her. So there were a big concern about how we will do documents and would we be able to do that in Moldova.
After moving to this place how changed your life?
Teysha : Thanks god everything got improved. We were able to hold a wedding, shelter managers helped us with documents. And even we were able to give birth at a hospital. We are really grateful for this. We were supposed to have a wedding in Ukraine on 5th of March. Wedding dress, the guests, the place everything was already prepared and booked. We had to cancel all of that and leave. But we hold wedding here in the shelter and we have our wonderful daughter Amina now. We appreciate everything what we have here now.
Do you have any plans for future? Or it's just still very unclear at the moment?
Vavec : As soon as the war will end we want to go back to Ukraine and will try to restart our life.
We don’t want to just stay and wait what will be. So, we are planning little by little what we will do after returning. Now I am working here in the construction. I just want to say that we're making steps forward.
Teysha and Vavec were dating for 2 years and in 2022 they decided to get married. They liked each other at first sight, but Teysha thought as it won't work because she already had two kids. But Vavec didn't give up, he start to take care of Teysha and even of her kids as his own kids. He rent an apartment and work even harder to make Teysha able to stay at home with kids. But war broke out and they didn't really know what will be. Fortunately now they are safe and happy, waiting for the day when they can go back to home and restart their life.
We pray with them for the day when war will end and everything will be just fine. Like there was no war and struggle.
Thank you.
