Electric generator for the shelter
Electric generator for the shelter

Thanks to your continued support, we’ve been able to purchase electric generator for the shelter and cover some expenses of the refugees.

1. The Situation of the Patria Lukoil shelter.

Patria Lukoil shelter for Ukraine refugees currently hosting 80 people : 49 adults, 31 children.  Some expenses of the shelter were covered by the Chisinau Hall, Moldova where the shelter is located. But we got report from the manager of the shelter last week that with time they feel less support for the shelter  from City Hall of Chisinau, Moldova.  Especially financial support, and there no more cleaning service for shelter and warehouse. No more security service, no more night shift. No more finance to support for all these services anymore because of insufficient budget in the City hall. Fortunately the refugees understand the situation and are volunteering to help and take shifts in cleaning.

2. One day from refugees’ life

We would like to continue to share with you the refugees' life at the shelter. Peace Winds filming team stayed at Patria Lukoil shelter and experienced the life of a refugee.

<Episode 3> Evening time at the shelter.

Around 8 pm in the evening, you can hear the radio translation from several rooms: “Glory to Ukraine! Glory be to the heroes! “, ”Everyone is worried about the future of their country.’ Refugees at the shelter listen to the war situation on the radio every evening. While adults listen to the radio or clean and maintain the shelter, children gather in the kids room to draw pictures, play card games, or TV games.

In the the kids' room, where children can play or study, computers are also placed so that students can do their homework or take online classes. But since it is winter, it is mostly indoors and there are no fun and educational indoor games for children at the shelter. Parents busy by shelter chores, lining up early in the morning to receive supplies and in this situation children may not receive the care they need.

These children are in the age when they should study and learn to make a bright future for themselves and become a leaders of specific field. But the current war is taking away their time and opportunity to learn and develop skills for the future. It is more than important to provide them proper environment to study and learn and organize some educational program that is both not boring and educational in order to help them get back to learning.

Eleven months of war in Ukraine have disrupted education for more than five million boys and girls(Unicef), and it’s time to call for increased support to help get children back to learning.
