Project Report | Nov 22, 2025
Emergency flood @ food relief at Parkview.

By Jennifer Hughes | Founder/CEO

Parkview in Nakuru West is facing a crisis few will ever witness firsthand. When Lake Nakuru rose and pushed inland, it didn’t stop at the roadside—it poured into homes, shops, and kiosks, wiping out the small businesses and daily work families depended on. Houses now sit in stagnant, debris-filled water, and pathways are muddy, slippery, and unsafe.

Many families have been left with almost nothing. Some cannot afford to relocate, while others remain in partially flooded homes because they have no alternative. With livelihoods washed away, casual jobs and small businesses have disappeared.

Children are bearing the harshest impact. Many have gone days without a proper meal, and cases of waterborne illness are rising. During our visit, we met children searching the flooded areas for small salty fish—the only food they could find.

The situation for adolescent girls is especially alarming. With income sources destroyed, some have turned to transactional sex to afford food or shelter. According to AMREF staff and information from Maina, a community elder, HIV infections have increased sharply. Poverty, displacement, and lack of options have created a dangerous environment for young girls.

The area chief shared his deep concern as he described how quickly conditions have worsened. Parents are struggling to protect their children, and families are reaching a breaking point.

During our visit, Springs of Hope Foundation delivered food hampers to the most affected households. Children gathered immediately, relieved to finally have something to take home. For families with no income and no food left, the hampers offered much-needed stability.

Yet the need remains far greater than what we could provide. Dozens of households are still without food. Children continue to face hunger and illness, and many families remain in unsafe, unsanitary conditions with no means to relocate.

To continue supporting Parkview, we urgently need more donations and supplies. Food hampers offer immediate, tangible relief for families who have nowhere else to turn. Without sustained help, many households will remain at serious risk. Please consider a donation to our Parkview relief fund.
