World AIDS Day 2026 calls for urgent action. Funding disruptions have weakened community HIV drug delivery in Nigeria, placing high-risk adolescents at risk of treatment failure and drug resistance. Empower Future Initiative will establish a specialized community ART delivery and adherence hub in Karu, Nasarawa state, Nigeria to achieve over 90% viral suppression and ensure uninterrupted second/third-line treatment for over 750 vulnerable adolescents.
Recent funding shifts have disrupted community HIV services, leaving adolescents without structured adherence support. Clinics are overstretched and cannot provide intensive follow-up for non-suppressed youth or those on second/third-line ART. Without urgent stabilization, treatment interruptions increase drug resistance, viral failure, and loss to follow-up among vulnerable adolescents.
Empower Future Initiative will launch an Emergency Community ART Stabilization Hub in Karu, Nasarawa state, Nigeria to restore drug access and adherence support. The project will provide peer-led counseling, structured follow-up, viral load monitoring coordination, and zero stock-out tracking. Our goal is to achieve over 90% viral suppression and guarantee uninterrupted ART access for 750 high-risk adolescents.
This intervention will prevent drug resistance, reduce loss to follow-up, and stabilize adolescent HIV treatment outcomes. Forty trained peer leaders and community health workers will sustain adherence support beyond the emergency phase. By restoring community-based ART access, we strengthen Nigeria's HIV response and protect future treatment options.
