Emergency HIV Stabilization Begins Now

Stabilizing Treatment. Preventing Resistance. Saving Young Lives.

Right now in Nigeria, over 1,000 adolescents living with HIV are at risk of treatment interruption due to disruptions in community ART delivery systems. Without urgent intervention, this could lead to drug resistance, viral failure, and loss to follow-up—reversing years of progress in HIV prevention.

At Empower Future Initiative, we are launching an Emergency Community ART Stabilization response to restore ART adherence support, drug access, and viral load monitoring for high-risk adolescents.

Why This Project Matters Now

Adolescents—especially key populations (KP) such as adolescent girls and young women (AGYW)—face unique barriers:

Stigma and discrimination
Poor access to youth-friendly HIV services
High pill burden for second/third-line ART
Limited adherence support

Without adherence support systems, even a short interruption in ART refill access can lead to drug resistance, making future treatment more difficult and expensive.

This is why emergency HIV drugs access + adherence support = life-saving intervention.

Restore community ART refill access
Ensure zero stock-out tracking for second/third-line ART

Adherence Support Systems

Peer-led adherence counseling & support groups
One-on-one ART adherence coaching
Structured follow-up for non-suppressed adolescents

Viral Load Monitoring & Suppression Drive

Track and support viral load monitoring
Achieve >90% viral suppression among high-risk adolescents

Community-Led HIV Response

Train peer educators and community health workers (CHWs)
Strengthen community ownership and reduce stigma

Beyond Treatment: Prevention & Dignity

This project also integrates:

HIV prevention awareness & education
Linkages to HIV prevention kits and testing services
Stigma reduction campaigns
Youth-friendly safe spaces

Because ending HIV is not just about drugs — it’s about people, dignity, and community systems.
