Dear Supporter,
Earlier this year a spell of bad weather and unseasonably high tides hit the small island village of Cocal. This already poor and under-resourced village is not equipped to deal with natural disasters, so we set up a fund to provide assistance for the community.
GVI has been doing a lot of work with the school in Cocal in the past few years. We conduct English lessons, sports, arts and environmental education workshops. It is a very rural community and restoring infrastructure is costly and takes time. During times like these it is amazing to see how the whole community bands together to support each other. The GVI classrooms at the school have been opened up to a few families who have lost their homes and belongings to the waters.
Donations are going towards restoring infrastructure and replacing lost belongings. Clean-up operations have also been underway and normality is now returning to Cocal.
We thank you for your support of the village of Cocal during this difficult time.
With gratitude
GVI-Costa Rica
