Summary

Our goals are to plant 10,000 corals and manage 50 thriving nurseries in The Bahamas by the end of 2024. Coral reefs are the lifeblood of our ocean, providing food, shelter, and protection to countless marine species. They sustain livelihoods, preserve cultures, feed families, and shield homes from storms. But our reefs are dying, and we're on the brink of losing them forever. Help us restore coral reefs and secure a sustainable future for The Bahamas.

Challenge

The destruction of coral reefs is one of the greatest tragedies of our time. In the Bahamas, up to 80% of coral reefs have already been lost, threatening marine biodiversity and the balance of ocean ecosystems. This devastation endangers countless species and the livelihoods of millions, from fishermen to hotel workers. The destruction of our reefs is not just an environmental crisis but a human one, jeopardizing the very foundation of our coastal communities.

Solution

PIMS breathes life back into dying reefs by nurturing healthy corals in land and ocean nurseries and transplanting them to devastated areas, with local communities at the heart of the effort. Using cutting-edge photomosaic monitoring, we track coral health with unmatched precision, ensuring our restoration is both effective and enduring. By reviving coral reefs, we not only protect marine biodiversity but also help secure the future of Bahamian livelihoods and culture.

Long-Term Impact

This project will plant 10,000 corals and establish 50 thriving nurseries in The Bahamas, helping reefs recover from the devastating effects of climate change, disease, overfishing, pollution, and more.
