Coral reefs provide food, shelter, and protection to many marine species. For millions of people, coral reefs support livelihoods, preserve cultures, feed families, and protect homes from storms. But our coral reefs are dying, and we're in danger of losing them forever. The Perry Institute for Marine Science (PIMS) is leading the fight to save these precious ecosystems in the Caribbean, where coral reefs are the foundation of the region's economy, culture, and way of life, and we need your help.
The destruction of coral reefs is one of the greatest tragedies of our time. As our reefs disappear, we are losing marine biodiversity, putting countless species at risk of extinction and threatening the delicate balance of ocean ecosystems that we rely on for our very survival. This is not just an environmental disaster, but a human one too. Coral reefs provide livelihoods for millions of people, from fishermen to hotel workers, and they are the foundation of many coastal communities.
The Perry Institute contributes an enormous wealth of scientific research to inform policies and practices and to develop and implement proactive conservation strategies, to share knowledge, and to engage communities. We grow corals in nurseries and treat diseased corals in the wild. We promote sustainable fisheries concepts, assess and plant mangroves, provide outreach to the wider community and scholarship/internship opportunities to encourage local participation in the conservation sciences.
Supporting the Perry Institute means restoring coral reefs at an unprecedented scale. We're establishing the world's largest network of coral restoration projects, and empowering coastal communities to plant corals and treat diseased corals throughout the Caribbean. Beyond the reef, your donation will support our fisheries conservation, mangrove restoration, and community engagement programs. Help us protect the livelihoods and cultures of millions, while saving coral reefs from extinction.
