Deimos and Call Volume Increases

By Genevieve Frederick | Founder/President

Deimos
Deimos

Meet Deimos.

A homeless man who is living in a tent by the river called our office seeking medical assistance for his companion, Deimos, a 9-month-old male Golden Retriever Pit Bull mix. He has been homeless for about a year and receives food stamps.

Deimos was experiencing weight loss, vomiting, lethargy and shaking of the head for three to four days. It was also very hard to wake up Deimos.

This was very concerning. An intake was performed and homeless verification was given ASAP. Our Case Manager called the closest emergency hospital and got an exam approved for Deimos with a Partner Veterinary Hospital.
Our Partner Veterinary Hospital got Deimos in super-fast and they were able to perform an exam and parvo test. Fortunately, the parvo test came back negative which was a huge relief for all. Although the test came back negative Deimos owner was still very concerned for his companion.

They performed bloodwork and x-rays, once both were performed and results were analyzed, they were fast to give Deimos the correct medications and got him feeling better!

The Partner Veterinary Hospital was more than kind to give Feeding Pets of the Homeless a discount of $191. Feeding Pets of the Homeless contributed $860 towards the care of Deimos. We have been thanked by his owner numerous times for saving his best friend!

We are very grateful to you, our supporters, for helping us meet the needs of pets like Deimos. There are many more out there that need our help. We get many calls of people in similar circumstances looking to get their companion the help they so desperately need. We handled over 2,500 calls last month! Thanks to you, we have been able to hire another case manager to have an even greater impact.

Thank you for your continued support!
