Challenge

Women in rural communities in Zimbabwe have been disproportionately affected by the global pandemic. There has been a marked reduction in household income levels, most of their husbands who were employed in the urban areas had to move back because of retrenchments and company closures. The families also relied on agricultural crop and small livestock production and markets were affected by the lockdown and travel restrictions. Increased tensions over income have resulted in gender-based violence

Solution

Project will build the resilience of women and empower them with business management and financial literacy skills to enable them to set up sustainable income generating ventures. The women will receive coaching and support to ensure success. Integration of technology will allow access to market information and non-traditional markets. With increased household income, the domestic disputes will be contained and families can afford education, health and general welfare, lifting them from poverty.

Long-Term Impact

The project will empower 100 women in rural Zimbabwe with business management and financial literacy skills to build their resilience to socio-economic shocks. The project will provide coaching and support to 100 women as they establish income generating ventures to increase their income levels. Integration of technology will allow the SHEpreneurs to access market information to enable them to make informed market decisions which earn more income, improving their families' well-being.
