This project will transform the lives of 100 vulnerable Ugandan widows and single mothers who face extreme poverty, food insecurity, and limited economic opportunities after losing their primary income source by providing sustainable income-generating skills, microfinance support, and essential resources. We aim to break the cycle of poverty and dependency, enabling these women to provide for their families with dignity while building stronger, more resilient communities.
Ugandan widows face devastating poverty after losing their husbands, losing access to land, income, and economic opportunities. They struggle daily to feed their children, pay school fees, and afford basic healthcare. Many resort to dangerous work or early remarriage for survival. Without sustainable income sources, these vulnerable women remain trapped in cycles of dependency while their 400+ children risk dropping out of school, perpetuating generational poverty across rural Uganda.
We'll transform 100 widows through comprehensive empowerment: tailoring and agriculture skills training, sewing machines and farming equipment, business startup capital ($150-250 each), financial literacy workshops, and essential healthcare support. Through practical skills development, microfinance access, and ongoing mentorship, these women will generate a sustainable monthly income ($50-$ 150), achieve food security, and become confident, self-reliant community leaders.
Within 12 months, 100 empowered widows will earn a sustainable income, ensuring that over 400 children stay in school and receive proper nutrition. They'll establish savings cooperatives, mentor other vulnerable women, and break intergenerational poverty cycles. This creates lasting community transformation, including a strengthened local economy, reduced aid dependency, increased women's leadership, and a proven, replicable model for rural women's empowerment across Uganda and beyond.
