Campaign Status Overview
Progress Update (This Quarter)
During this reporting quarter, American Aid (A A Relief) continued advancing our project, “Empower 100 Vulnerable Ugandan Widows with Skills,” which is designed to break the cycle of poverty affecting widows and single mothers across rural Uganda. Although the project has not yet received donations through GlobalGiving, we used this quarter to strengthen the program’s readiness so we can begin implementation immediately once funding starts.
Our team focused on refining the delivery model for a two-track empowerment approach—tailoring and agriculture—paired with financial literacy, startup capital support ($150–$250 per participant), and mentorship. We also strengthened our beneficiary identification and verification process to ensure support reaches widows facing the most severe barriers: loss of land access, unstable income, food insecurity, inability to pay school costs, and limited access to healthcare.
Community Engagement & Beneficiary Selection
We continued community-based engagement to ensure the program remains dignified, transparent, and locally informed. Key actions this quarter included:
- Coordinating with community leaders and women’s groups to identify the most vulnerable widows and single mothers.
- Strengthening a verification and documentation process to confirm need and reduce duplication.
- Establishing clear selection protocols that prioritize households with the highest vulnerability (food insecurity, children at risk of dropping out of school, and lack of income-generating options).
This community-led approach helps protect beneficiary dignity while ensuring accountability to donors and partners.
Challenges & Strategic Response:
Primary Challenge: Funding remains at $0
The primary barrier continues to be the lack of funding needed to begin training cohorts and distribute essential tools and startup capital.
Our response this quarter:
- Strengthened program planning so we can launch quickly once initial gifts arrive.
- Continued building partnerships and supplier relationships to keep costs low and maximize impact per dollar.
- Prepared the project for phased implementation, enabling us to begin with a smaller cohort as soon as partial funding is available.
Secondary Challenge:
Need exceeds current capacity
The number of widows seeking support in rural Uganda remains extremely high, reflecting the depth of the crisis.
Our response:
- Maintaining a transparent, community-led selection process.
- Documenting additional eligible cases for future expansion and potential referral pathways through partner organizations.
Activities Planned for Next Quarter (Pending Funding)
Once funding begins, we are ready to implement the following activities:
1. Tailoring skills training for 50 widows (3–6 months), including provision of sewing machines.
2. Agriculture skills training for 50 widows (3–6 months), including provision of farming tools/equipment.
3. Business startup capital distribution ($150–$250 per widow) to enable immediate income generation.
4. Financial literacy workshops (budgeting, savings, recordkeeping, basic business management).
5. Essential healthcare support to address urgent barriers to stability and productivity.
6. Formation of savings cooperatives to strengthen long-term resilience and reduce dependency.
7. Mentorship and follow-up support to reinforce skills adoption and business sustainability.
Expected Impact
With full funding and implementation over 12 months:
- 100 widows and single mothers will gain practical income-generating skills.
- Each participant is expected to earn $50–$150 in sustainable monthly income.
- 400+ children will be better protected from hunger and school dropout.
- Women will establish savings cooperatives, mentor others, and strengthen community resilience—helping break intergenerational poverty cycles.
Closing
While donations have not yet started through GlobalGiving, our commitment remains unwavering. We are prepared to begin implementation as soon as the first contributions
