Empowering Women's Economic Resilience in DRC

Introduction

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Every meaningful change begins with hope. In eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, thousands of women continue to live with the consequences of conflict, displacement, poverty, and economic exclusion. For many, rebuilding a life means starting from nothing.

Thanks to the generosity of compassionate donors around the world, this project has taken its first important steps toward helping 2,000 vulnerable women regain economic independence through vocational training, entrepreneurship, and small business support.

Although we are still at the beginning of this journey, your support has already sent a powerful message to these women: they are not forgotten.

Humanitarian Context

Eastern DRC remains one of the world's most complex humanitarian crises.

Years of armed conflict have forced thousands of families to flee their homes. Women have been among the hardest hit, facing displacement, unemployment, gender inequality, and limited access to education, financial services, and sustainable livelihoods.

According to UN Women, more than 10,000 women in the region continue to experience severe economic vulnerability.

Many women who escaped violence now struggle daily to provide food, education, and healthcare for their children.

Our project focuses on 2,000 refugee and vulnerable women living in Bukavu, Kabare, and Idjwi, where opportunities for income generation remain extremely limited.

Our Goal

Our objective is simple but transformative:

To equip 2,000 women with practical vocational skills, entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, and access to small start-up grants so they can build sustainable businesses, increase household income, and regain control over their futures.

By investing in women, we are investing in stronger families and more resilient communities.

Progress to Date

Although project implementation officially begins in November 2025, important preparatory work is already underway.

During this reporting period, our team has focused on establishing the foundation necessary for successful implementation.

Current achievements include:

  • Launch of the project preparation phase.
  • Identification of target communities in Bukavu, Kabare, and Idjwi.
  • Initial selection process for vocational trainers.
  • Community outreach to identify eligible women beneficiaries.
  • Coordination meetings with local leaders and community representatives.
  • Development of the implementation schedule and training framework.

These preparatory activities ensure that once implementation begins, assistance can reach women quickly and effectively.

Financial Update

The total project budget is US$80,000.

To date, the project has received its first donation of US$50 through the incredible generosity of donors on GlobalGiving.

While this amount represents only the beginning of our fundraising journey, it symbolizes something much greater:

It represents confidence.

It represents solidarity.

It represents the belief that together we can create lasting change.

Every contribution—regardless of its size—moves this project one step closer to empowering 2,000 women with the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Expected Impact

When fully funded, this project will enable:

  • 2,000 women to receive market-oriented vocational training.
  • 2,000 women to strengthen their entrepreneurship and business management skills.
  • Increased financial literacy and improved household financial planning.
  • Access to small business grants that will help women launch or expand income-generating activities.
  • Creation of women-led businesses that stimulate local economic recovery.
  • Improved household resilience through sustainable sources of income.
  • Greater participation of women in community leadership and economic decision-making.

Beyond economic outcomes, the project will restore dignity, confidence, and hope for thousands of women and their families.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming months, INUKA RELIEF will continue finalizing beneficiary selection, confirming vocational trainers, and completing all operational preparations.

The official implementation phase is scheduled to begin in November 2025.

As additional resources become available, vocational training sessions, entrepreneurship coaching, financial literacy workshops, and business start-up support will gradually be rolled out across the target communities.

Our commitment is to ensure that every dollar entrusted to us creates measurable, lasting impact for the women we serve.

Thank You to GlobalGiving

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to GlobalGiving for providing a trusted platform that connects our local organization with generous people from around the world.

For many community-based organizations in fragile contexts like eastern DRC, access to international supporters would not be possible without this partnership.

GlobalGiving has given our project visibility, credibility, and the opportunity to transform compassion into concrete action.

To everyone who has already donated:

Thank you.

Your kindness has already begun opening doors for women who have waited far too long for an opportunity to rebuild their futures.

A Message to Future Donors

Today, the first contribution has been made.

Tomorrow, together, we can change 2,000 lives.

Imagine a mother who can finally provide school fees for her children.

Imagine a widow opening her first small business.

Imagine a young refugee woman earning her own income instead of depending on humanitarian assistance.

These are not distant dreams.

They are achievable outcomes—if we work together.

No gift is too small.

Every donation helps purchase training materials, support vocational instructors, provide entrepreneurship coaching, and offer small start-up grants that allow women to build sustainable livelihoods.

By investing in one woman, you help strengthen an entire family.

By supporting 2,000 women, you help rebuild communities recovering from years of conflict.

We warmly invite individuals, foundations, companies, and partners around the world to join us on this journey.

Together, we can replace vulnerability with opportunity.

Together, we can transform resilience into lasting prosperity.

Together, we can ensure that thousands of women in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo have the chance to build a future defined not by conflict, but by hope, dignity, and economic independence.

Closing Note

On behalf of the women, families, and communities we serve, thank you for believing in this mission.

Your compassion is more than a donation.

It is an investment in dignity.

It is an investment in resilience.

It is an investment in hope.
