Dear supporters and donors of Africa Matters and the Ambassadors Program,
As we close 2025, we thank you for your support and unwavering commitment. We are proud to highlight four community engagement projects led by our 2024/25 Ambassadors in Cameroon, South Africa, and Angola, showcasing their dedication to youth-led community impact. We celebrate these leaders and wish them continued success as they use their work to drive greater leadership within their communities.
Elodie – Educate Me Project, Cameroon
Elodie’s project addressed disruptions to education in crisis-affected regions. Many young people had dropped out of school or lacked the resources to continue their studies.
Through one-on-one sensitisation, online surveys, and hands-on vocational training—including IT, secretarial, graphic design, pastries, soap-making, and professional make-up—Elodie reignited a culture of learning and self-reliance. Leadership workshops, peacebuilding sessions, and financial literacy programs complemented these activities, creating holistic development opportunities for youth aged 13–28.
“Africa Matters didn’t just train me—it shaped the way I lead. The program gave me the confidence, clarity, and skills I needed to build a project that truly serves my community,” Elodie reflects.
Ivanilson – Community Library: Roots of Knowledge, Angola
In Caponte City, Ivanilson saw a critical gap: children and adolescents lacked safe spaces for learning and critical thinking. His project transformed an open space into a community library, providing free access to books and fostering intellectual growth, gender equality, and social entrepreneurship.
The library opened weekly, welcoming 15 children initially, cultivating curiosity and a love for learning. Storytelling, mentorship, and interactive engagement empowered youth to focus on education and personal growth.
“Africa Matters taught me the value of resilience and purposeful leadership. It gave me the courage to take the first step, manage challenges, and focus on solutions, which allowed me to create a space that truly inspires my community,” Ivanilson shares.
Kealeboga – Project Dignity, South Africa
Project Dignity empowers Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in Ikageng, Potchefstroom, to navigate challenges related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Through workshops, peer-support groups, and leadership sessions, AGYW gained accurate SRHR knowledge, self-esteem, and life skills. The project also created safe spaces for open discussion and connected participants to clinics and youth-friendly services, helping them make informed decisions and develop autonomy.
“Africa Matters gave me the tools, confidence, and perspective to transform a simple sanitary pads drive into a life-changing program. It taught me to listen to the community, act ethically, and design solutions that empower young women sustainably,” Kealeboga reflects.
Tataw – Beyond Limits: Growing in Confidence and Purpose, Cameroon
In Limbe, Cameroon, Tataw’s mentorship project under the Youth Mentorship and Empowerment Program (YMEP) supported adolescents affected by conflict and systemic gaps in education.
The initiative provided life skills, career guidance, leadership training, and psychosocial support to 50 youths aged 12–20. Workshops emphasized ethical leadership, personal development, teamwork, and design thinking, while peer support groups reinforced learning and community responsibility.
“Africa Matters gave me the framework, confidence, and perspective to turn mentorship into a meaningful journey. It taught me to adapt, listen, and empower youth to grow with purpose and resilience in the face of challenges,” Tataw shares.
Through these initiatives, our Ambassadors have demonstrated that youth are powerful agents of change, tackling challenges in education, health, mentorship, and empowerment with creativity, dedication, and courage.
We sincerely thank our donors and supporters for making this work possible.
Your continued investment in youth-led community impact helps us create environments where young African leaders can develop their skills, implement meaningful projects, and drive lasting transformation. To expand this work and empower even more youth and communities across the continent, we warmly invite you to make a financial contribution and support our mission.
Happy Holidays!
