This project aims to empower 20 young journalists in Goma, Eastern DRC, with the necessary training and equipment to combat misinformation and fake news. By providing journalism skills, media tools, and a web radio/TV studio, we will enable these journalists to deliver real-time, accurate news to their community, enhancing information flow in a region plagued by conflict.
In Eastern DRC, particularly in Goma, the prolonged conflict has led to a flood of fake news and misinformation, confusing and misleading the public. The youth, who are the future of the media sector, lack proper resources and skills to counter this disinformation. This causes confusion and social unrest, with a lack of credible news sources to trust.
Through comprehensive training, the provision of reporting equipment, and the creation of a media production studio, young journalists will gain the skills and tools necessary to effectively gather, process, and broadcast credible news. This will provide the community with accurate and timely information, countering the current tide of fake news.
This project will create a lasting impact by equipping young journalists with the skills to fight misinformation long term. These journalists will become key figures in promoting truth and transparency in the region. Over time, their work will foster an informed and empowered community, contributing to stability and peace in Eastern DRC.
