One Year Since the Disaster, Update on Your Impact

By Abdulrazak Madi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Today marks one year since the devastating earthquake that shook Northern Syria on the 6th of February 2023, leaving behind tales of sorrow but also stories of hope and determination. Thanks to your generous support, we have made a real difference in the lives of 2,000 students who lost their homes and schools in the aftermath, but never lost hope.

"My son died instantly in my arms... and my husband, I was just calling out his name, Mohannad, recite the Shahada.. Muhannad recite the Shahada."

Khadija, one of these students, shared her story from beneath the rubble, embodying the extent of loss and suffering experienced by many families. Despite this deep sorrow, Khadija didn't give up. Instead, she found a glimmer of hope and a means to overcome her tragedy through education.

Watch Khadija's full story

Masarat played a vital role in Khadija's life, becoming a source of psychological support and resilience. "I needed something to distract me from what happened... I wanted to study, I wanted to memorize the Quran." Her determination to continue wasn't unfounded but stemmed from her strong desire to achieve her goals and aspirations.

Your role was crucial in their journey, as you provided Khadija and thousands of students like her with a supportive educational environment and the necessary resources to overcome that ordeal. "Masarat helped me a lot... I can study comfortably at home next to the heater."

Thank you, dear partners, for taking part of the stories of many of our students who have overcome tragedy, excelled, and continue to pursue their dreams.

“When life gives you a reason to stop, give it a thousand reasons to continue”, Khadija’s message.
