Fundacion Idea Dignidad works with girls and their families to eradicate sexual violence and forced pregnancy. We develop training and accompaniment through art to increase their self-esteem, knowledge of their rights and create protective environments in which they can develop their skills and life projects. With this project, girls, their families and caregivers will have access to psychosocial support, didactic material and education about rights through art and play.
In Ecuador, 7 girls under the age of 14 are mothers every day, the majority were victims of rape. The majority of sexual abuse occurs within the homes and close circles of the victims. Nearly 40% of the aggressors abused more than once and 14% did so for a long time. The most vulnerable are girls in conditions of poverty who are also victims of other types of violence that impede their life projects.
Idea Dignidad provides education, psychosocial support, didactic materials and legal advice for the enforceability of rights. Perform experiential education based on art as a way of expressing and creating new living conditions. These girls raise their self-esteem, increase their knowledge and become empowered by planning and building life projects free of violence, while becoming young leaders who promote rights in their family and community environments in poor areas of the city of Quito.
We develop activities with 50 girls from poor areas and foster homes for girls and boys in situations of violence. By educating them and working with their families and communities, protective environments are created and the risk of them being victims of different forms of violence is reduced. Girls are empowered and can plan life projects in which they exercise rights and seek opportunities to develop their capacities. Girls become subjects of rights and agents of social change.
