Girls Empowerment Post-COVID

At Sisterhood Agenda, we are cautiously optimistic about the future as we maximize our health and mitigate COVID risks. Our priority is safety.

COVID-19 has had a huge impact as a pandemic life event, changing our lives and the planet forever, leading to a new normal for most of us. It's not over. Even with precautionary measures and vaccinations, the virus is still here.

Many of us are united now in COVID trauma. As we shift to digital learning systems in an accelerated way, we also realize the need for personal contact. We are working on ways to offer both because today and tomorrow, this is what support services look like. And today, many of us need so much more than what we are currently receiving in terms of mental health.

We are in the process of shifting, a transformative process that is taking as long as it takes. This shift is not a simple or easy one: it is massive and will result in a totally new way of thinking and doing. Although this type of change can be daunting and uncomfortable, sometimes causing fear and insecurity, we are excited about what is happening. Because a lot of the action is mostly behind the scenes, faith in Sisterhood Agenda's mission and over 25 years of sisterhood service helps us to maintain confidence that we are on the right path.

We are in the process of coordinating multiple media-driven platforms to fulfill our mission to educate, support, and empower women and girls around the globe. These are larger projects that take time and effort to plan and implement, particularly with travel and gathering restrictions.

Thank you for your patience with this process as move through, re-assess, redo, and change to adapt, grow, and be successful.

It's a New World

We know that it’s a new world.

At Sisterhood Agenda, we recognize the need for global girls to come together. At most times. At this time. At all times.

One Sisterhood Agenda principle remains: sisterhood is the key to empowerment, social change, and freedom.

Embracing the concept of creativity and adaptation in a whole new world, one that is presently impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, we found an exciting opportunity to engage our global girls' sisterhood.

It’s all about community, specifically, building sisterhood through community by creating a whole new world, the world as we want and need it to be online, virtually.

Gatherings help members of the community come together. It is not just a physical union, but a bonding dynamic of reciprocal support:

Global Girls: COVID-19 Response

Sisterhood Agenda is adhering to recommended COVID-19 safety guidelines. That means planned gatherings have been canceled and no gatherings are being scheduled, including youth activities. But we are still working and planning for our new future!

In lieu of SisterCamp and A Journey Toward Womanhood staff implementation, we are creating and distributing Fun Kits for Girls that are comprised of materials and entertaining activities for hours of self-directed engagement. Services may look a little different and we definitely travel less frequently. Yet, we are purpose-drive and strive to be as resourceful as ever. Our limits as individuals, agencies, and communities are all being tested.

After the hurricanes and during this pandemic, at Sisterhood Agenda, we have remained vigilant and determined to continue our mission-driven services to educate, support, and empower girls around the globe.

During civil and social unrest related to racial justice issues in the United States and throughout the world, we support activism that promotes positive social change for equality, love, and respect. The earth and the people who reside here are in need of healing. Our work and the work of so many of our global partners and other agencies are part of an international movement to create systemic change. We are creating a world where individual and historical trauma can be prevented and everyone can win.

The health and care of our community members are our first priority. While we wait to resume activities as safely as possible, the Sisterhood Agenda team has expanded by adding team members and we are also expanding our media projects, including digital outreach, in order to sustain and grow our global educational empowerment activities.

This can be a very exciting time for innovation and adaptation, even amidst the uncertainty that inevitably exists during times like these. While we navigate these new, uncharted waters, we would like to say "thank you."

Thank you for believing in us and our work, for donating to our cause and being there when we needed you the most. Please know that EVERY PENNY you give counts to increase our capacity and make us stronger and even more resilient. As they say, "Teamwork makes the dream work."
