We are excited to share preliminary results on the impact of our innovative menstrual cup pilot. Our data from comprehensive beneficiary surveys taken at the beginning and end of the project shows that women who use menstrual cups experience a decrease in the number of days that they had to miss work or leave work early. Women also reported fewer negative symptoms, such as urinary tract infections and other signs of poor menstrual hygiene, after switching to cups provided by BARKA.
Even more important, more women now say menstruation is not a problem in their daily lives after using a cup (61.6% compared to 46.7% before they began). More women are able to concentrate at work during menstruation – 96% say they can concentrate always or mostly. And, 74% of women said they don’t feel shame during menstruation (compared to 42.2% before this project). These results are very encouraging.
In addition, we recently completed focus group discussions with the project's beneficiaries, as well as our on-the-ground trainers. We're using the information gleaned in these discussions to understand how to refine and improve our methodology as we develop a country-wide expansion of this revolutionary project.
Thank you for your support, we couldn't do it without you!
