In the rain season, there is no way to reach the state hospital from the Nicaraguan village la Salvia as the only connection to the world is via a dirt road. Happily our clinic, Health & Help, was build to provide the basic medical care to the community. With this project, we will focus on providing the direly needed care for the local women: we will help them with family planning, pregnancy support, and treating very common lung diseases caused by cooking on an open fire.
Our Nicaraguan clinic is located in the community La Salvia on the slopes of the Cosiguina volcano. There is no public transportation from the community to other villages. Local women are especially in need. They need access to quality family planning and pregnancy support. Also, because the local women cook on open fire, the rates of lung diseases and asthma are extremely high.
With this project we will be able to focus on providing a high quality medical care to the local women. We will be able to provide them with suitable contraception methods, support their pregnancies and m motherhood, and buy enough medicines to treat extremely prevalent asthma and pneumonia.
Empowering the local women will have a profound and lasting effect on the whole community. Young women will be able to focus on their studies and work, and young will be able to plan their future better. This initiative fosters economic stability by reducing healthcare expenses, increasing productivity and improving the wellbeing of local women and their family members.
