Action10 together with Human Rights & Science (HR&S) aim to raise funds to decrease poverty in the Kibera slum through increased employment and business activities. The Kibera slum in Kenya suffers from low employment and high poverty rate where the latter is as high as 50%. By supporting local business operations we will contribute to an increased standard of living in the area.
Dolas Creation, mainly making and selling African-wear, is run by Mr Fredrick Ating'a. He has huge aspirations for the business and the implicated social benefit it can have. However, it is difficult to operate within the textile, fashion & apparel industry. Fabrics that fashion designers in Kenya use are often imported, and it takes time to get deliveries. Mr Fredrick strives to expand his market base by scaling up and increasing the number of employees to provide significant social benefits.
Action10 and HR&S want to support businesses by making them self-sustaining, in this case by partnering with Dolas Creation. This will be enabled by providing investment capital, auditing and on-site coaching. The business will be able to empower people within the community by providing training and employment opportunities. He will also provide a platform to gifted local artisans and craftsmen in Kibera. Also, the negative impact from the pandemic makes initiatives like Mr Fredrick's desirable.
Dolas Creation aims to be the nation's most inclusive organization representing marginalized artisans and craftsmen, that share the common goal to improve living standards through providing opportunities to the marginalized in the community.
