Testimony from Kenya

By Volunteer | Action10

Background

Since 2011, Action10, with the help of Human Rights & Science (HR&S), has been engaging and empowering marginalized people in Kenya's remote villages through the table banking model, which improves access to investment capital. This ensures that people, especially the poor, participate in economic activities that benefit both the person and society. As a result, these individuals are better equipped to combat poverty, maintain financial stability, and run profitable businesses.

Testimony from Jesse

In a previous update we mentioned the story of Jesse, assistant secretary in Amani Women Group. Jesse is one of the examples of what impact the table banking initiative had on the whole family’s life. Below, you can read the full testimony about the impact of table banking.

Has the table banking initiative in any way changed your life?

Yes, it has. It has changed my life. Before, when I got my money, I would spend it. I had no vision. When I got 200 shillings, I spent it and was left with no money. But when the idea came, I saw it was better, and I saw that I was using money. But from that idea, I listened to them, and I take something from them and put it in my mind.

So from that day, if I got 200, I try the best; even if I spend 150, I make sure I have my own 50 shillings saved for me.

Before we started this, I had no motorbike. Now I have it. I have been able to buy it because I have saved money. Before, I had just half an acre. Now, I have one and a half acre shamba.

Before, it was difficult with my family. But now, I am trying. My firstborn girl was at school and was sent home to get money, but now it’s not that way. Now I can pay for school fees.

In collaboration with our partner Amani Women Group, Action10’s programme has improved many lives. Read more about the programme Table banking in rural Kenya by clicking on one the links below.
