Starting last fall, the Mozambique School Lunch Initiative is lending a hand in a new initiative to support secondary school students -- partnering with the Hokwe boarding house in Chokwe District.
In September last year, MSLI began providing daily school lunches to students living at the Hokwe secondary school boarding house, supporting youth from remote communities without access to nearby secondary schools. Although the boarding house is designed to provide meals, limited funding often meant students received only two meals per day. By partnering with the boarding house to supply lunch, MSLI is helping students maintain the nutrition they need to succeed academically. Currently, only 41 students are enrolled despite space for 100, largely because even the modest annual fee remains out of reach for many families. Looking ahead, MSLI hopes to sponsor additional students so more rural youth can continue their education beyond primary school!
In these ways, MSLI seeks to support more girls to go all the way to the 12th grade -- a big milestone in Mozambique where very few students from rural students manage to complete their education. Thanks to your generous support, we are able to work closely with communities to figure out what solution works best to empower Mozambican girls.
Thank you for your contribution to our efforts!
