Empower Mozambican girls to go to high school

On August 9, 2025, a group of 47 students from our secondary school program visited the Main Campus of Eduardo Mondlane University. The visit was designed to provide students with valuable insights into vocational mentorship and entrepreneurship, and it certainly delivered.

During the process, students had the opportunity to showcase their project and business ideas, and some outstanding students were awarded 7,000 meticais to turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality.

The visit was a resounding success, with students benefiting from peer-to-peer learning, networking opportunities, and inspiration to pursue their goals. There, they had the chance to meet entrepreneurs, and learn about best practices in the industry. This experience did not only enhance their knowledge but also broadened their perspectives and inspire new ideas.

This year, we had more girls that ever who progressed to the next grade in school. The 2025 school year kicked off in February, and we were very pleased to see significant increases in the percentage of students who passed the 10th grade -- a challenging level to pass due to standardized national exams.

Our program has now been running for 4 years, so we have more and more students who are progressing to the final years of high school, with the biggest cohort currently in the 10th grade, followed by the 11th grade, and the 12th grade. Most of these students are the first in their families to attend high school, and so each additional year of education is a major achievement.

In addition to the school buses and school lunches, our mentorship program is key to supporting these students and helping them advance further. Each week, the students spend about 5 hours in additional extra-curricular activities organized by our mentors, focusing on topics like health, English language and digital skills, and soft skills. We have also incorporated additional study sessions, helping the students review difficult subjects and get extra practice. In the coming months, we're excited to bring additional topics like entrepreneurship, career paths, and more to these students. We think is essential for the students to start crafting their journies and next steps now that they're getting closer to completing high school.
