This project empowers communities in Tete and Cabo Delgado to heal from conflict through peace circles, youth-led mediation, and psychosocial support, building resilience and justice for survivors of violence and displacement. Activities will be co-designed with youth and women leaders to ensure cultural legitimacy and sustainability.
Mozambique's post-conflict communities face deep trauma and division. In Tete, mining exclusion and rural marginalization fuel silent tensions. In Cabo Delgado, families displaced by armed violence lack safe spaces for healing and justice. Youth and women, most affected, have few accessible mechanisms for dialogue, reconciliation, and psychosocial support.
This project creates peace circles and reconciliation workshops where communities can heal together. AAAJC will train youth and women as mediators, provide psychosocial and legal support, and host intergenerational dialogues. By documenting stories of healing and launching campaigns for restorative justice, the project builds culturally legitimate, sustainable mechanisms for peace and resilience.
Communities will gain resilience and capacity to resolve conflicts peacefully. Youth and women leaders will sustain mediation practices, while intergenerational dialogues strengthen cohesion. The project will serve as a scalable model for other provinces, contributing to a national culture of participatory peace and justice, and positioning Mozambique as a global example of community-led peacebuilding.
