Building Resilience Through Peace Circles in Tete

Community members in Tete gather in a peace circle
In Tete province, one of our recent peace circles brought together youth, women, and elders from a community affected by mining exclusion. At first, participants were hesitant to share their experiences, but as the dialogue unfolded, stories of displacement and silent tensions emerged. A young woman spoke about how the circle gave her courage to express feelings she had carried alone for years. Elders responded by offering guidance and acknowledging the importance of listening to the younger generation.
This moment captured the essence of our project: creating safe spaces where communities can heal together. Since January, AAAJC has facilitated 12 peace circles with over 200 participants, trained 60 youth and women as mediators, and launched intergenerational dialogues that strengthen cohesion. These activities are not only reducing trauma but also building resilience and justice for survivors of violence and marginalization.
Looking ahead, we will expand peace circles to new communities, produce more digital stories of healing, and continue empowering youth and women to lead reconciliation efforts.

Human Solidarity Day: Peace Circles

Families gather for peace and healing in Tete.
On Human Solidarity Day, AAAJC honors the resilience of Mozambican families in post-conflict regions. Through Empower Peace Circles, youth leaders create safe spaces for dialogue, solidarity, and psychosocial healing. These circles help rebuild trust, strengthen community bonds, and inspire hope for a more peaceful future.
In Tete and Cabo Delgado, young facilitators are guiding families to share experiences, listen to one another, and find collective solutions. Their commitment shows that solidarity is not only a principle but a daily practice that strengthens dignity and peace. Each circle becomes a symbol of unity, where communities transform pain into resilience.
Beyond the circles, AAAJC and its partners also stand together in national initiatives promoting justice and citizenship. This institutional presence reinforces the credibility of our grassroots work and shows that community healing is connected to broader movements for rights and dignity.
We invite our supporters to continue walking with us. Your solidarity ensures that more youth can lead Peace Circles, bringing healing and hope to Mozambique.

Human Rights Day: Justice in Mozambique

Mother registers child at legal fair.
On International Human Rights Day, AAAJC celebrates community achievements in Mozambique. A mother successfully registered her child with support from our free legal fair, ensuring dignity and access to basic rights. This simple act represents hope for families who have lived through conflict and displacement. At the same time, youth leaders gathered under trees and in community spaces to map local priorities, share experiences, and strengthen community justice. These circles of peace are not only meetings, but living examples of resilience and solidarity. Together, families and youth are building bridges of trust, creating safe spaces, and showing that justice can grow even in postconflict settings. AAAJC is proud to stand with them, empowering voices and protecting rights for a more peaceful future.
