The investments we have made are going well! The women bought high quality cuys from Marangari for a cheap price and have been focusing on breeding them. It was a success! They produced many baby cuys and the family is putting their effort into raising the cuys in good health. They take about three months to be fully grown and we expect them to be ready soon.
Everything we have been working towards will have come to fruition as the women will take the cuy to the market to be sold! Finally, they will see a profit after 10 months of set up. Each cuy is sold for somewhere between 30-50 soles, which will make a huge difference in the lives of Juana, her two daughters, and granddaughter.
The Pinagua community has been extremely supportive of the family, and it is inspiring others to start their own business as well. Three other families have already signed up to be on the waiting list to build a cuy house. Some of them can’t wait and already started to clear the area and put up a foundation for the house! When everything is ready, it will only take one week to construct the shelter.
Follow Our Journey
Several of our interns are on the project and are working hard to get these families the resources they need. Maddie, the NGO Assistant, is putting together a website for the families. Globalteer’s documentarian Abi has already made a video showcasing the project and is working on several more. We hope to have all of our social media up and running so you can follow our development.
Thank you for taking the time to read our update, and as always, thank you for your continued, invaluable support. If you would like to donate, and we hope you do, please visit our page to do so!
