Challenge

Inequality of learning opportunity - Though China has expanded basic education for K-12 in recent years and increased its number of college graduates in the past decade, the huge gap in educational opportunities between students from rural areas and those from cities has created a system that challenges rural students resulting the thwarting of social mobility. This phenomena is especially acute in rural schools that house 60 million plus 'left-behind' children, cared for by their grandparents.

Solution

Level the playing field. Promotes life-long learning. By providing periodic workshops that align with the essential skill listed in the 2016 World Economic Forum report for the teachers, they can, in turn, incorporate the knowledge they acquired into developing curricula that create relevant learning environment for student success in the 21st century. Not only can the teacher directly disseminate the knowledge and train the students, they can also train the other teachers in their schools.

Long-Term Impact

Equity in Education. Brings hope, instills courage, and elevates confidence. Becomes who they want to be and breaks social-economic immobility cycle. Economically and resource challenged students will be empowered with World Economic Forum suggested 21st century skills to be competitive and strive, after high school graduation, especially in the workforce. Students will be able to innovate and create with high emotional intelligence and problem solve with complex critical thinking skills.
